Our Pastor

Rev. Gordon Meriwether

Rev. Gordon Meriwether is currently serving in a dual appointment as Pastor of Mt Tabor United Methodist Church and in an extension ministry as Director of Connectional Ministries in the Shenandoah River District of the Virginia Annual Conference. Prior to this appointment he has served as Pastor at Mt Horeb UMC, in Hinton, VA, West Point United Methodist Church in West Point, Virginia, and The Greene Charge UMC in Greene County, Virginia.

Before answering the call to ministry in 2012, he had a varied career in the US Navy, business, academia, and politics.  He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Alabama and was awarded an MBA from George Washington University in 1988. He retired from the United States Naval Reserve in the rank of Captain in 2001.  Rev. Meriwether has taught at the Michigan State University, University of California, Davis, University of Phoenix, and Piedmont Virginia Community College. In the spring of 2014, he earned a Master in Conflict Transformation (MACT) from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding and in 2015 Rev. Meriwether was awarded a Master of Divinity from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Fellow at the Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership at the University of Virginia.

Rev. Meriwether is married to the former Dana Smith of Churchville, Virginia. Together they are blessed by 4 daughters and 6 grandchildren. They reside with their pug, Frodo, in Rockingham, Va.
